Around the Net – your morning skate around the league

Good morning everyone… it is game day number 6 for the Penguins in their first round match-up with the Ottawa Senators. They still hold a 3 games to 2 edge in the best of seven series, but Ottawa gained some momentum by winning a three overtime thriller in Pittsburgh this past Thursday night. They will also have the luxury of playing on home ice… Though the Penguins took two games in Ottawa, there is no telling how the goaltending change and MO from game five will carry over.

I still believe based on what we have seen in the series thus far that the Penguins will end the series tonight. However, a Sens win opens up a whole new can of worms, as anything can happen in a game seven situation!

Let’s get moving on today’s Around the Net…

First up, the “expert” himself, Ray Fittipaldo takes a look at how overtime games have shaped the series in which they have occurred… be it in a good or bad way for the Penguins…

Overtime makes a difference

Fittapaldo is on fire… as he brings us this notebook as well. He talks about the fact that the Sens have excelled in blocking shots, the Penguins recall of Chris Conner, and the fact that Sergei Gonchar is pretty satisfied with being up 3-2 in the series…

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun talks about the performance of Pascal Lelcaire and how he is going to have to walk on water if the Senators have a chance of coming back and win this series…

We all know that Penguins fans are passionate about their team, but I don’t know many who are willing to kill over it. This loon went nuts after his wife began arguing with him over the late hour he stayed up to watch the final moments of the Senators victory on Thursday evening… he killed her over it!

Ulf Samuelsson, an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes is no stranger to the pressures of the a playoff series. The gritty former Penguin won two Stanley Cups with the team and went through many a tough series in getting there…
