GM's Inbox

GM’s Inbox with onesmugpug and Doug McKenzie

on

It has been a while since “Doug McKenzie” from Elsinore All Stars and OneSmugPug hit us with an edition of GM’s Inbox, but it seems that they were inspired by yesterday’s deal between the Penguins and Stars that sent Alex Goligoski to Dallas in exchange for James Neal and Matt Niskanen.

Folks on each side of the deal have reason to be excited, but here is how the wacky duo behind GM’s Inbox think the deal went down…

Ray,

My team could really use Alex Goligoski.  What will it take to get him?

Ray,

Hmm… James Neal?  That’s a pretty steep price.  Your organization already has more than couple defensemen who can put up points.  Is Alex Goligoski really that vital?

Ray,

What about a first round draft pick?  How about a first and third – like that Versteeg deal that went down last week – would that suit you?

How about Brad Richards?  Maybe Mike Ribeiro?  You have a few key centers missing so you could use guys like them, right?

Ray,

How about Steve Ott, Toby Petersen, and a second round draft pick?

I know we have some ownership struggles here in Dallas but they’re on the cusp of being resolved.  I won’t be bullied into making a bad hockey move.

Ray,

I’m sorry but I need to get this done.  We really need a guy like Alex Goligoski here in Dallas.  Tell you what, how about Goligoski, Tangradi & a conditional pick for Neal & Matt Niskanen?  Does that work for you?  I’ll fax the paperwork your way and list the trade terms on Wikipedia.

Joe,

You’re only getting Alex Goligoski; he’s plenty valuable by himself.

I like the sound of Niskanen as well.  Alex Goligoski for James Neal and Matt Niskanen.

Will you tell the guys around the league that I’m a tough negotiator?

I can’t take much more credit than a few inside jokes with a fellow Pens fan….and facilitating the information to a publisher. Past that, I just get to laugh at this stuff before everyone else….
