GM's Inbox

GM’s Inbox with onesmugpug and Doug McKenzie

on

You may remember that we unleashed the first edition of the GM’s Inbox a few weeks back featuring our our onesmugpug and “Doug Mckenzie” from Elsinore All Stars. Those two knuckleheads are back with another edition for you.

This time they dynamic duo hack into the interwebs and produce an exchange between Ottawa’s Bryan Murray and the Penguins’ Ray Shero.  As you know these boys have gotten pretty good at hacking the email accounts of GMs around the league!

Ray,

I have a trade proposal which I think will be mutually beneficial.  Have I piqued your interest?

Bryan,

Sorry, Bryan.  I’m a little too busy to type right now.  Can you call me instead?

Ray,

No way, I’m not falling for that again.  All you’re going to do is poke fun at my lisp and ask if Sergei still has a look of disbelief when he gets his paychecks.  Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Every time I look at your roster, I’m struck by how desperately you need to upgrade your wings.  I’m willing to help.  Do I have your attention?

Bryan,

Upgrade at the wing, you say?  What do you have in mind?  I’m not looking but I will listen.

Ray,

What do you think about Alex Kovalev?  He was very productive in Pittsburgh.  He’s a 1,000-point scorer, so there’s no doubting his scoring ability.  Even better, his contract is up at the end of the season so you won’t be saddled with a long-term commitment.

Bryan,

Not being saddled with a long-term commitment is appealing.  Speaking of long-term commitments, how is Gonchar signing working out for you?

Seriously though, I don’t have the salary cap space to add his contract without moving something substantial.  What do you have in mind?

Ray,

Thanks to your boy Kris Letang I’m out a center for a while and you have plenty of depth at center.  I need to get a center in return.

Kovalev for Malkin?

Ray,

I need a center badly.  My job’s on the line here.

Max Talbot for a picture of Kris Letang getting punched in the face?

That’s 2 consecutive games without a point for Sid.  Kovalev for Malkin?

Bryan,

Two games?  Big deal.  If I made panicked moves like that, I’d be out of a job.  And in case you haven’t noticed, Sid’s doing just fine without “elite” wings.  Heck, the entire team is scoring plenty.

Good luck keeping your job.  Tell Sarge I said hello.
