Need a stocking stuffer? Try Mario’s uniform on for size…

By Brian Metzer

So, the holiday season is upon us and we are all scrambling to find the perfect gift for the hockey fans in our lives. Sure you could go to Dick’s Sporting Goods and stock up on merch including jerseys, hats etc, but if you have got money to burn, why not get the special person Mario Lemieux’s game used uniform from the 1990 All-Star Game!

Lemieux’s entire uniform is apparently being auctioned off by  company called Lelands.com. Their tag line says that they are: “Specializing in Sports & Americana Memorabilia, Vintage Photography & Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

Though there are many in this country that wouldn’t agree with Mario Lemieux’s uniform qualifying as “Americana Memorabilia” there are a number of folks that would probably kill to own this item. There is no need for anything so drastic in this case, as you can own it with a fair amount of green. The auction has already been bid up to $2,420.00 on just three bids. It is worth noting that there was a $2,000.00 reserve, so it was never going to go for less than that.

The description of the item reads as follows:

Mario Lemieux’s complete uniform from the 1990 NHL All-Star Game, played on January 21 on Super Mario’s home ice at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh. Lemieux scored four goals in the game, equaling Wayne Gretzky’s All-Star Game record which had stood since 1983. He was named the Most Valuable Player of an NHL All-Star Game for the third time in his career. Jersey shows very light use with a couple of small – yet photo-matched – marks near the right sleeve cuff and a couple of small marks on the upper right sleeve near the numbers. Captain’s “C” on front chest and 1990 NHL All-Star Game patch on right shoulder. Pants shell has been conclusively photo-matched to multiple photos from the game as well. Large board burn on the upper back left side of the pants shell. Matching socks shows light wear with light sweat stains evident. An All-Star MVP lot of Le Magnifique!

If you haven’t already spent your entire holiday fund on Xbox games, processed meat and cheese assortments and ugly sweaters, why not plunk down your hard earned $3,000.00 on Mario’s jersey, pants shell and socks!
