Ponikarovsky Suspended Two Games…

Sorry for the delay in getting here today folks. I had a horribly sad morning, but an amazing afternoon.

I had to attend the funeral mass for a friend’s sister that suddenly passed away on Monday morning this morning, but was invited to tour the Consol Energy Center this afternoon.

Let me be the first to tell you that it is amazing! I absolutely can’t wait to watch a hockey game in that building. There is not a bad seat in the house! I will be blogging about that experience shortly…going through pictures etc now… here is one to hold you over…

Unfortunately, before I get to the CEC stuff, I have to talk about the Ponikarovsky two game suspension.

I am not sure that it was warranted. I understand that he caught the guy from behind, but in this era of suspending based on the result of the hit, two games was a bit excessive. Especially when there wasn’t an injury and he got 15:00 minutes in penalties on the play as well as being tossed out of the game.

It is also worth noting that Poni had no priors, which is typically important when determining the severity of the discipline.

It will be interesting to see who gets a shot in the top six now that Poni is out. Maybe Bylsma can catch lightning in a bottle as he did one year ago with Malkin, Talbot and Fedotenko…

More from the CEC shortly!

  1. INCREDIBLE !!

That Incompetent Cementhead DOUCHEBAG suspends a guy 2 Games with no Prior History of these types Hit & lets Mike(MR> LEADERSHIP)Richards after cheapshotting Booth & basically ruining his season & his chance to Play for the USA at the Olympics & has a History of such hits, Remeber him Running MAF

  2. Like it or not EvilPen what Richards did at the time wasnt against the rules, just bad taste and lack of sportsmanship. Scott Stevens made a career out of it.

Poni’s hit has always been against the rules, now Richards hit is presently against the rules as well.

Brian Burke’s suggestion of allowing bear hugs in this predicament will go a long way in avoiding these hits. The suggestion is both logical and practical.
