Two Minutes With… Brian Strait
Metzer spends some time catching up with Penguins defensive prospect Brian Strait.
It has been a while since I got you all a new Two Minutes With… well, I finally have a new one.
I caught up with a number of Penguins prospects this morning down at Mellon Arena (it was great to be back in the old barn) and while everyone else was chasing after Eric Tangradi I was looking for my man Brian Strait. I have high hopes for Strait and he is a guy who could make an impact at the NHL level over the next few seasons.
I talked with him last summer during rookie camp and he was fresh off of a National Championship at BU playing alongside Matt Gilroy and was hoping to earn a spot out of training camp. Unfortunately that didn’t happen for him and he spent the season in Wilkes Barre-Scranton. However he did was necessary, worked hard and had himself a nice little season.
Heading into this year his expectations haven’t changed much. He is still hoping to make the team out of camp, but he realizes that a more realistic goal would be to play a handful of NHL games to get his feet wet.
He seems to have a great outlook and was very complimentary of the Penguins organization and how they have worked to groom him and other prospects in the system. Strait just wants to do what is necessary to continue growing into a better pro and I don’t doubt that he will do just that.
Enjoy Two Minutes With Brian Strait.
